A couple who set up a hand sanitiser production company a mere 12 weeks ago are set to make over £30 million. The business, ClearWater Hygiene, was set up by married couple Andrew and Rachel Montague to produce high-grade hand sanitiser primarily for frontline workers.
According to a report by the Daily Mail, the company began trading in March, and now has the capacity to produce over 900,000 litres of the 80 per cent ethanol hand sanitiser every week.
The product is produced at Deeside Gin Distillery in Banchory, Aberdeenshire, before being sent to Preston in Lancashire for bottling. The high ethanol content makes it suitable for use in hospitals, care homes and other public health facilities.
The company now has managed to secure major corporate contracts, including with the Post Office, JD plc, O2 Retail, BP, and Aldi, with an expected total contact value of £30m. The firm has already made more than £3m in actual revenue since its launch in March and has also donated significant quantities of its products to NHS charities.
ClearWater Hygiene now employs 12 full-time staff, and a further eight contracted workers at its head office in Leith, Edinburgh, as well as in other areas of Scotland and the UK.
Andrew Montague was a property developer previously, recognised the importance of reducing the reliance of imports during the early stages of the lockdown, and the need to focus on UK manufacturing.
“We are proud to be providing some much-needed support in the fight against COVID-19 by gifting our product to NHS charities while, at the same time, building a successful business,” he said.
“We’re continuing to secure significant contracts and we’ve ramped up production to 900,000 litres per week.”
