There’s no doubt that many people around the world have been struggling with the strict lockdown measures imposed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but the Japanese authorities have come up with an unusual way to lift people’s spirits.
They’re intending to host synchronised firework displays across the country at some point during the summer to surprise and delight everyone in the country.
Japan Times reported that a group in Akita Prefecture is organising the event, with 77 fireworks businesses from across 28 of Japan’s prefectures already signed up to participate.
However, to prevent crowds from gathering they won’t reveal the date or locations of the firework displays. All they have announced is that the firework spectacular will take place “sometime in July or August”.
The shows will last for up to ten minutes and the group is seeking crowdfunding donations to pay for the fireworks that will be used.
Those who chose to donate will be sent online videos of the fireworks and the group is said to be considering sharing the event details with them. Head of the group Noriyuki Hikino told the news provider that they want businesses to show off their “compassionate fireworks”.
He added: “We also hope that the fireworks will cheer up those who are exhausted by the pandemic.”
At the height of the lockdown in the UK the organisers of the summer carnival on the Isle of Wight announced that they will instead host a New Year’s Day fireworks display to make up for having to cancel the annual parade due to the pandemic.
