With most of us now working from home where possible, and everyone in the UK restricted to essential journeys only, your car probably isn’t getting anywhere near the level of use that it normally would.
Although most vehicles will be fine with not being driven for a couple of weeks, there are a few things you can do to make sure your motor is still in good working order when the lockdown ends and you’re able to drive more frequently again.
Business Matters Magazine offered a few tips on how you can look after your car during this time. One of the first pieces of advice is to thoroughly clean it, inside and out. Just avoid using ammonia-based chemicals as these can damage surfaces.
Take this opportunity to also check the condition of your tyres. An article for Motor1 recently offered some advice on how to look after your tyres during lockdown, courtesy of tyre manufacturer Falken.
It recommended checking the tread depth and looking for signs of wear, as well as checking to see that you have valve caps on each wheel. If you know you won’t be driving at all in the coming weeks, Falken also advised filling the tyre pressures to 15PSI above the standard recommended pressure to help protect them.
Business Matters Magazine also recommended turning your car on and running it every now and then to keep the battery ticking over. It also noted that if you have an old battery in your vehicle you may need to buy a new car battery in Scarborough after lockdown, and that it’s sensible to do so if the battery is nearing the end of its life.
Of course just like in the natural world some cannot survive the winter as much as you may try! If your car is past it you should seek out scrap car buyers to properly dispose of your vehicle.
