If all this time at home during lockdown has made you think a bit more about where the products you use come from and what ingredients or chemicals they contain, you might find yourself inspired in the near future to think about making your own versions of certain items so you don’t have to worry about running out and not being able to find what you’re looking for.
Olive oil is a magical ingredient that can be used in all sorts of ways, not just in the kitchen – and if you’re keen to rid your home of nasty chemicals to help keep you and your family safe and well, you might want to think about using it more in different parts of the house, as well.
Instead of using chemical-based floor cleaners, for example, you could whip up a batch of your very own DIY wood floor polish, using olive oil, white vinegar, lemon essential oil drops and some hot water. It’s easy to use – all you need to do is apply it with a well wrung-out mop and then leave to dry… no need to rinse, so you’re saving time into the bargain.
If you have leather home furnishings, you can easily breathe new life into the material with a few drops of olive oil, making it more supple and soft with a bit of buffing.
Or what about making your own dusting and polishing wipes, reusable, of course so you can keep your house clean, chemical-free and help save the planet at the same time.
Some olive oil, essential oils, vinegar and water is all you need – just put all the ingredients in a spray bottle and then spray your dusters generously before storing them in an airtight container. Simple!
