It has taken several years to educate businesses about the improved functionality, security and flexibility of cloud storage solutions. However, now that more and more companies are adopting the technology and holding their content on cloud services, the IT world is moving swiftly on. This time, experts are declaring the secret to safe online storage is not just using the cloud, but having a multi-cloud strategy.

Mr Kurian, who used to be the Oracle product CEO, said running IT systems across multiple clouds is the answer, Data Center Dynamics reported.

“The reality is that managing hybrid or mostly cloud compute can be highly challenging and complex… each cloud comes with its own proprietary infrastructure, proprietary API and that creates a strain on your talent and resources,” Mr Kurian stated.

He introduced Anthos – previously Cloud Services Platform – which allows customers to spread their data across several clouds and works with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) on-premises deployments.

Mr Kurian noted that companies using multiple clouds without a strategy will end up spending more on operation costs, as well as “fragment the developers and operators, and all of that can just add risk”. This, he stated, completely defies the purpose of getting into cloud computing in the first place.

Anthos, on the other hand, is a cloud agnostic platform that gives businesses the opportunity to use hybrid and multi-cloud platforms in one place.

According to Google Cloud, the new technology will modernise new and existing applications with containers, micro-services architecture and a service mesh – all of which are managed by Google.

This will improve data security, provide consistent experience, and allow companies to get their products to market at a faster rate. If you
